Medicinal value of the holy water attracts many visitors…
The hot water springs must have been believed to have medicinal value as Pali sources tell the story that once when the Buddha was sick, Jivaka the royal physician who also took care of the Buddha found it necessary to administer a purge, and he had fat rubbed into the Buddha's body and gave him a handful of lotuses to smell. Jivaka was away when the purgative acted and suddenly he remembered that he forgot to tell the Buddha to bathe in warm spring water to completely rid the disease. The Buddha read his thoughts in his absence and bathed as required. (Vin.i.279f; DhA. (ii.164f))
