In the preceding chapters we have outlined some of the problems facing Nalanda remains and we have proposed various solutions and interventions. All recommended actions in the plan are considered important to the long term sustainable development of tourism in Nalanda. However several key actions are considered to be “catalytic” in that they would provide the basis and impetus for the successful implementation of all actions. These include:
1. Master Plan implementation committee
i. A multi-stakeholder committee for project design, implementation and monitoring
ii. Representatives from Tourism department, Archaeological Survey of India, District administration, Buddhist institutions, Community, Nava Nalanda Mahavihar and the professionals who are part of the project design.
iii. Implementation schedule for all important tasks
2. Nalanda heritage zone
i. Establish heritage zone boundaries through consultative process
ii. Participatory processes to draft Heritage zone constitution and charter for community tourism
iii. Establish and train a Community Tourism Committee manage the tourism
iv. Create a tourist trail network connected to information points in the heritage zone
v. Signage, public notices, road furniture, display boards, billboards, to be designed to supplement the ambience of the heritage area.
3. Improved tourism support infrastructure & facilities
i. Detailed land survey for infrastructure with the community participation.
ii. Identification of land available for present need and future requirements.
iii. Enhanced public infrastructure to support tourism visitation
4. Development of Marketing and promotional strategy
i- Circuit and trail design
ii- Development of web site, brochures and other publicity material
iii- Brand design and development
iv- Orientation of tour operators, familiarization trips etc
v- Site launch campaign design
vi- Site Launch date and the launch event
5. Participation of Buddhist institutions
i- Scope and Rationale for participation of Buddhist institutions in heritage development
ii- Suggestive model for participation with Buddhist institutions
6. Tourism product development and Capacity building of community
i- Design and development of suitable Community Institutions for tourism management
ii- Identification of suitable tourism products based on skills and available resources
iii- Development of Training material and training schedule
iv- Workshops and capacity building programme
